In 2010, she finished 4th in the 25 km race at the world championships. In 2013, she won her first gold medal in the 5 km race and finished 6th in the 5 km team event with her American teammates. In 2015, she defended her 5 km world title and finished 9th in the 10 km. In 2017, she won a silver in the 5 km team relay, finished 5th in the 5 km, and finished 6th in the 10 km.

With a Top 10 finish in the 10 km race in Gwangju, South Korea, she will head to Tokyo in July 2020 to capture gold in the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim.
