On August 21st, Diogo Zoppi completed the 36 km Travessia do Leme ao Pontal in 10 hours 49 minutes.
Adherbal de Oliveira reported, “Diogo overcame all adversities including currents, wind, waves during his solo swim in a fantastic time of 10 hours and 49 minutes.
He swam along the coast of Rio de Janeiro passing through various tourist attractions such as Christ The Redeemer, Copacabana Beach and Ipanema, Sugar Loaf Mountain, Pedra da Gávea and the Cagarras Archipelago.
He had to swim at night after starting just after midnight while facing oncoming currents. Diogo was brave and was supported by his brother Caio Zoppi and his wife Vanessa Pugliero who were aboard the escort boat Magia del Mar.
In the end, the swimmer was very emotional and was surprised by the difficulties he encountered and this was the biggest challenge of his life.”
Zoppi became 15th swimmer to complete the longest and most beautiful marathon swim of Brazil. His designation – LPSA SOLO #15 – was ratified by the Leme to Pontal Swimming Association (LPSA).
His project Swimming for the Planet carries out various environmental actions aimed at awakening and encouraging people to the consequences of pollution caused by an increasing amount of plastics in the oceans.
