Tsugaru Too Turbulent Today

Matías Ola was thwarted by strong winds, the massive Tsugaru Current and persistent waves after 3 hours 21 minutes in his Tsugaru Channel attempt in northern Japan.

Conditions got tremendously turbulent after Matías was hit by the strong winds in the middle of the Tsugaru Current. The turbulence created dangerous conditions for both swimmer and crew so the swim was aborted after 3 hours 21 minutes.

Ola reported, “It was impossible to swim like this. I lost all my energy. My team in the boat did too. But, of course, I will try it again.”
