The Seventh Annual In Search of Memphre, a 25-mile international swim on Lake Memphremagog, between Newport, Vermont (USA) and Magog, Quebec (Canada) was a tough cross-border swim.

Phil White announced, “In Search of Memphre will expand in 2018 to include two expeditionary (i.e., group) events: one in mid-July and one in September. They are offered by Kingdom Games and the Northeast Kingdom Open Water Swimming Association which also offers support for individual solo swims throughout the summers.”

The swim was founded by Elaine Kornbau Howley and Phil White [shown above] in 2011 with the purpose of re-opening the border to international swimming on Lake Memphremagog. “The mission of the swim is to seek the lake’s swimmer friendly lake creature, Memphre, and to promote a more open border with our Canadian friends. Since then, 24 amateur swimmers have completed the full 25 miles and many more have made it across the border.
