Greg O’Connor of the Massachusetts Open Water Swimming Association announced the legacy memorial swim of James J. Doty.

Jim Doty is a local open-water swimming legend. Jim passed on in 2012, but he will never be forgotten. Jim is responsible for forming the non-profit organization, New England Marathon Swimming Association (NEMSA), dedicated to promoting swimming in clean New England waters. Jim re-started the Boston Light Swim back in the mid-1970s.

It is the oldest open water swim race in America. There isn’t a body of water in New England that Jim has not swum.

The annual James Doty Memory Mile Swim is held in his honor on June 10th.”
