After four events for the men and women in at the 2017 FINA World Championships (5 km solo + 5 km team event + 10 km + 25 km), FINA awards the Championships Trophy.
The Championships Trophy is awarded to the highest scoring nation at the FINA World Championships based on the cumulative scores of the 5 km solo race, 5 km team relay, 10 km marathon swim and 25 km marathon swim. First place in each race receives 18 points, second place receives 16 points, third place 14 points, fourth place 12 points, fifth place 10 points, sixth place 8 points, seventh place 6 points, eighth place 5 points, ninth place 4 points, tenth place 3 points, eleventh place 2 points, and twelfth place 1 point.
Team Italy won the 2017 Championships Trophy. Defending 2015 champion Team USA finished third after Team France improved from eighth to second between 2015 and 2017.
