Romanian Avram Iancu continued on his scheduled 60-day stage swim of 2,860 km along the Danube River through Europe.
The 41-year-old librarian from Petrosani, Transylvania started his stage swim from Donaueschingen in the Black Forest in Germany. He is now heading into Day 29 as each day is a dynamically different replication of the day before.
Day 28 on July 17th
Starting the day early and fully determined, Iancu swam 35 km today. The swim passed through the still waters of another dam. “I am very happy with today’s results as I managed to swim more than I did on the previous days.”
He is currently swimming through Wachau, an extremely beautiful Austrian region known for its vineyards and rolling hills. As the Danube winds its way through the hills and mountains dotted throughout this region, the water temperature remains cold and challenging after 28 consecutive stage swims. “I can barely see the mountains and hills around me through my goggles as they get very foggy due to the cold water temperature. Having covered a substantial distance already, I hope that soon enough the Danube will flow through more open fields and the temperature will become more bearable.”
Vienna is clearly within his sights. Once he reaches Vienna he will have completed the first 1000 km of this journey, most likely the most difficult stage of the Danube. A new crew member is expected to join the team in Vienna.
Cumulative Distance:
Day 1 – Day 28 – 799 km
Remaining Distance – 2,022 km
