Swimming From Asia To Europe

Samsung Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swim (or Samsung Boğazıçi Kitalararasi Yarislari or Samsung Boğaziçi Kıtalararası Yüzme Yarışı) is held in the Istanbul Strait that connects the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara in Turkey.
Bosphorus is the world’s most narrow strait used for international navigation. The race enables its participants to claim they swam between Asia and Europe as everyone swims 6.5 km from Kanlica on the Asian side to Kuruçesme on the European side of the Bosphorus.
This year, ocean advocate Doug Woodring and marathon swimmer Lexie Kelly [shown above at today’s press conference] were invited to participate in the race that started in 1989 with 68 swimmers and has significantly grown into one of the world’s greatest open water swimming extravaganzas.

Ömer Tara won the 2016 Bosphorus Cross-Continental Swim among men, including Levent Aksut, an 86-year-old open water swimmer from Turkey who finished in 2 hours 17 minutes.
