54-year-old disabled swimmer Salvatore Cimmino continues to explore his aquatic limits with his worldwide project that pushes for inclusion without barriers of people with disabilities.
His A Nuoto nei Mari del Globo (Swimming in the Seas of the Globe) has been underway since 2005 in Italy, Israel, across the English Channel, USA, and Mexico.
After his latest 50 km 14-hour swim from Ponza to Ventotene in Italy, he plans to stage swim down the Rio Paranà in Argentina in February 2019. He plans to swim 11 stages over 11 days down the Paranà, covering almost 600 km.
In the first stage he will swim with the professional marathon swimmers during the FINA UltraMarathon Swim Series from Santa Fe to Coronda. Then, he will swim alone for the remaining 10 days, averaging about 80 km, to his finish in Tigre, outside Buenos Aires.
The event will be organized by the International Red Cross. “I am ready to bring my message of awareness to the world of the disabled,” said Cimmino.
