Masayuki Moriya took another relay successfully across the Sado Channel on June 25th.

On June 25th starting at 1:40 am, 10 people from Sado Ventures – many of them first-time channel swimmers – participated in a 40 km relay across the Sado Channel in northwestern Japan. The team started at Akadomari Port on Sado Island 44 minutes after midnight. The team finished at Teradomari Port in Nagaoka City in Niigata Prefecture on the mainland of Honshu at 3:48 pm, 15 hours 4 minutes after starting.

The swimmers included Sajith SakamotoEnokido TakahitoYasuhiko ImaiYoshiaki IshiharaKenji IshiiTomotaka KameiKatsunari IwakiYutaka FujiokaYasuyoshi Okamoto, and Kazuhiro Tsuzuki.

Moriya reported, “There were some waves at the start due to the wind, but they continued to make good progress through the night sea with a sense of purpose and a collective commitment to their challenge. By the afternoon, the winds had died down and the sea surface became calm to the finish on the mainland. The water temperature was 22°C at the start and 24°C at the finish with air temperatures ranging between 22°C to over 30°C. There were times when the conditions were tough, but everyone encouraged each other and demonstrated teamwork, including the influence of the tide around the 20 km mark.”
