Pam Ladds of Newport, Vermont and Julie Zeitlinger of Sutton, Canada [shown on left] completed a Swim The Chillies in Lake Willoughby on December 15th.

Phil White said, “I brought an ax just in case. But, the water is open and they swam with the ducks.

In addition to Pam and Julie, winter swimmers around North America are hard at it training and qualifying for the Fifth Annual Memphremagog Winter Swim Festival on February 23rd – 24th 2019.

Pam and Julie took advantage of the open waters at Lake Willoughby to Swim The Chillies in the 35°F water temperature.

Willoughby stays open later than most lakes in the region because it is so deep under the cliffs, making it a perfect venue for winter swimming, late into December and even early January.

So far, almost 80 swimmers have signed on to the Festival in February, with room for about 20 more.”
