Ross Edgley (39, Great Britain @rossedgley) knew he was going to encounter tough times before he started The Great Icelandic Swim, his assisted 1,600 km stage swim around Iceland.

But he was ready, physically and mentally.

And he is being tested right from the start with strong winds and rough conditions.

His crew of Benjamin Marshall, Maisie Bristow, and Jacob Carter are trying to hold the boat in stiff winds as Edgley swims from Reykjavik to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula on the west coast of Iceland [see images of coastline below].

Ger Kennedy reported that the first week’s water temperature will be between 6 and 7°C.

The location of the escort boat, SKIRR Adventures, is posted and updated here and here.
