27 Japanese open water swimmers completed an unbelievably gorgeous 15 km Borneo Rainforest Ocean Swim Tour.
Their aquatic trek took them island-hopping from the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort to Mamutik Island to Manukan Island to Sulug Island and back to the Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort.
Among the swimmers, 77-year-old Arakawa Motoko of Tokyo joined with her teammates, “I love the sea very much, whether it’s the beautiful coral at the bottom of the sea or the blue sky above the sea which is far different from a swimming pool. I feel energized when I see younger swimmers because I can feel that they are giving me their energy.”
A local endurance athlete joined in the adventure, 58-year-old Cowboy Miala who was preparing for the 5.4 km Labuan Cross Channel International Sea Challenge in May from Labuan to Papan Island. “The organizers did a good job, the water current was a little strong, but I would definitely join the one next year.”
Strong currents in a beautiful setting definitely makes for an ideal open water swimming adventure and holiday.
