The Reef & Run Series in Week 3 will not accept registration fees for its June 20th race this week.

The race directors ask swimmers to make a contribution to the Nicholas Johnson Memorial Fund instead of sending in their registration fees.  The proceeds from the June 20th evening swims of 500 yards, 1 km and 1 mile go directly to the Santa Barbara High School Aquatic Booster Club to celebrate Nick Johnson and his legacy.

Johnson was a long-time Junior Lifeguard participant and instructor, a water polo player at Santa Barbara High School and University of California Santa Barbara, and a Santa Barbara beach lifeguard.  Unfortunately, Johnson tragically died from shallow water blackout during a swim workout in 2014.

The post-race food, beer and drink on Thursday night are provided by Aloha Steakhouse, Zizzo’s and Firestone with music provided by Popravinas.

The Reef & Run season began on June 6th and continues for 11 weeks.  For more information, visit here.
