The International Swimming Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held on May 17th – 19th where the newest Hall of Fame honorees including swimmers Jason Lezak (USA), Otylia Jedrzejczak (Poland), Stephanie Rice (Australia), Britta Steffen (Germany); diver Ting Li (China); water polo player Alessandro Campagna (Italy); coach Boris Popov (Russia); synchronized swimmer Olga Sedakova (Russia); open water swimmer Dr. Marcy MacDonald (USA); contributor Dr. Ferenc Salamon (Hungary); and pioneer Alfred Nakache (France).
Dr. Marcella ‘Marcy’ MacDonald is a 55-year-old American marathon swimmer and podiatrist from Andover, Connecticut – and is known as The American Queen of the English Channel.
After a long successful career as a channel and marathon swimmer, she will become one of the few dual inductees as an Honor Swimmer in both the International Swimming Hall of Fame and International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame.
The well-deserved recognition adds to her laurels:
* 2005: inducted to the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honor Swimmer
* 2011: nominated for World Open Water Swimming Woman of the Year
* 2013: achieved the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming
* 2015: selected as one of the World’s 50 Most Adventurous Open Water Women
* 2015: selected as a Marathon Swimmers Federation – Finalist, Solo Swim of the Year
* 2019: inducted in the International Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honor Swimmer
Her achievements included:
* completed 16 English Channel swims, the most of any American in history, including 3 English Channel double crossings in 2001, 2004, and 2013
* attempt of a triple crossing in 2004, but was forced to retire after the second leg
* completed a 2003 English Channel double crossing relay
* member of the 24-Hour club with a 2013 English Channel two-way crossing
* raced in the 2012 Swim Across America Long Beach 10 km race
* completed the 1993 45.9 km Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 7 hours 38 minutes
* completed a 1994 English Channel crossing in 10 hours 33 minutes
* completed the 1994 45.9 km Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in New York in 7 hours 34 minutes
* completed a 1997 crossing of the English Channel in 12 hours 57 minutes
* completed the 1999 45.9 km Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in New York in 7 hours 13 minutes
* completed the 2000 45.9 km Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in New York in 8 hours 20 minutes
* completed a 2000 English Channel crossing in 9 hours 42 minutes
* completed a 2001 English Channel two-way crossing in 21 hours 19 minutes (1st leg: 9 hours 53 minutes + 2nd leg: 11 hours 26 minutes)
* completed the 2002 25 km Swim Across The Sound in 7 hours 18 minutes
* completed a 2003 crossing of the English Channel in 11 hours 27 minutes
* completed the 2004 10 km Huntington Bay swim in 2 hours 40 minutes 48 seconds
* completed a 2004 two-way English Channel crossing in 23 hours (1st leg: 11 hours 14 minutes + 2nd leg: 11 hours 46 minutes)
* completed the 2007 10 km Huntington Bay swim in New York in 3 hours 33 minutes
* completed a 2007 English Channel crossing in 13 hours 25 minutes
* completed the 2007 17.5-mile Ederle Swim in 6 hours 41 minutes
* completed the 2009 45.8 km Manhattan Island Marathon Swim in 7 hours 48 minutes
* completed a 2009 English Channel crossing in 11 hours 31 minutes
* completed the 2010 16.1 km Kingdom Swim in Lake Memphremagog in 4 hours 27 minutes
* completed a 2010 66 km Round Jersey circumnavigation swim in 9 hours 59 minutes
* placed 13th in the 2010 15.9 km Maui Channel Swim from Lanai to Maui in 6 hours 44 minutes
* completed a 2011 English Channel crossing in 10 hours 34 minutes
* completed a 2011 English Channel crossing in 11 hours 51 minutes
* completed a 2013 32.3 km Catalina Channel crossing in 12 hours 9 minutes
* completed a 2013 English Channel two-way crossing in 24 hours 16 minutes (1st leg: 11 hours 55 minutes + 2nd leg: 12 hours 21 minutes)
* completed the 2013 25 km Swim Across The Sound in 9 hours 41 minutes
* completed a 2014 English Channel crossing in 11 hours 50 minutes
* completed a 2015 36 km Loch Ness crossing in Scotland in 11 hours 59 minutes
* completed the 2016 45 km Molokai Channel in Hawaii in 17 hours 27 minutes
* completed the 2017 24-mile Tampa Bay Marathon Swim in 9 hours 13 minutes to complete the Grand Slam of Open Water Swimming
* placed 2nd in the 2018 20 km Mercer Island Marathon Swim in Washington in 6 hours 18 minutes
* completed a 2018 33.8 km English Channel crossing in 15 hours 1 minute
