Along with Jaimie Monahan, Ram Barkai, Antonio Argüelles, Lewis Pugh, Sally Minty-Gravett MBE, and Pat Gallant-Charette, United Nations Patron of the Oceans Lewis Pugh officially received a Guinness World Record certificate from adjudicator Kim Partrick at the 2018 Open Water Summit and WOWSA Awards at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.

Pugh set the world record for completing the First Swim of the Length of the English Channel.

His Long Swim was a 49-day, 560 km stage swim in the English Channel by Lewis Pugh from Land’s End in Cornwall to Dover in Kent in the United Kingdom. Started in July 2018, The Long Swim is observed and ratified by the Channel Swimming Association and covered by Sky Sports, and most importantly, ultimately led to the British government making an announcement to protect 30% of the world’s ocean by the year 2030.
