2-time Olympic medalist Larsen Jensen, one of the mainstays of the American Olympic and national team since 2003, has transitioned his renowned intensity from the pool to larger goals for his country.
En route to becoming a Navy SEAL where the physiological and psychological preparation is intense, Jensen will rejoin the swimming community for a day.
At the 2010 Global Open Water Swimming Conference this weekend, Jensen will talk about his transition from mild-mannered, training-twice-a-day lifestyle of an Olympic pool swimmer to a 24-7 member of America’s naval special operation force.
Jensen is training to be deployed in a wide variety of missions, including direct action and special reconnaissance operations, unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, hostage rescue and counter-terrorism. His training consists of a 24-week Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL school and an 18-week SEAL Qualification Training program. This training includes a lot of time spent training in the sub-60°F (15°C) waters near San Diego, California in wet military gear.
Inspirational as an athlete, Larsen is even more so now.
