Keeping Your Cap On In Open Water Competitions

Courtesy of WOWSA, Huntington Beach, California.

Most swimmers compete in open water swimming competitions with a swim cap. Some competitive swimmers want to make sure their swim caps stay on their heads.

For those with long hair, not using treatment or conditioner the day/night before the race is one way to keep their swim caps on. Others want to make sure their swim caps firmly stay on their heads. In these cases, some use simple duct tape.

Some swimmers use small pieces of duct tape to firmly keep their swim caps on their heads.

Some swimmers use large pieces of duct tape to firmly make sure their swim caps stay on their heads.

Some swimmers not only use large pieces of duct tape to firmly keep their swim caps on their heads, but also wrap their wrist transponders (timing chip) with the same duct tape.

Some swimmers wear two swim caps, with duct tape holding down their inner cap and allowing their goggles to keep their outer cap on.
