Hanna Bakuniak had an outstanding competition at the International Ice Swimming Association 3rd World Championship and 1st Ice Swimming Arctic Cup in Murmansk, Russia this week.

She finished 3rd in the 200m freestyle, 3rd in the Ice Kilometer, 4th in the 50m butterfly, and culminated the meet with a victory – for her first world title – in the 50m freestyle today as the snow fell on the frozen lake venue.

The 23-year-old Polish star had to give it everything she had to just barely beat Germany’s Alisa Fatum who won the 500m freestyle and Ice Kilometer as well as placing 2nd in the 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle.

In third place just slightly back was another young emerging star Ciara Doran of Ireland who won the 200m freestyle, finished 2nd in the Ice Kilometer, 5th in the 50m butterfly and 3rd in the 50m freestyle.
