Hanging Around Hammerheads

Hanging Around Hammerheads

There are lots of holiday tours and diving tours centered around hammerhead sharks from the Caribbean to the Pacific.

Usually the hammerheads are seen from below while being photographed by divers in a group.

But there is something profoundly different when a group or solo hammerhead is seen from the perspective of an open water swimmer from the surface of the ocean. Somehow and some way, that hammerhead just seems a bit more menacing (to us) as seen from above while swimming along (alone) in the ocean.

While swimming around Yonaguni Island in Okinawa Prefecture, Japan, there are plenty – PLENTY – of hammerheads to be seen from the surface of the ocean.
