There are few in the open water swimming world who have swum as far or as frequently or as successfully as International Marathon Swimming Hall of Famer Liz Fry of Connecticut.

Between commuting to Manhattan Island and managing her responsibilities in a high-stress financial services job, Fry finds ample time to train relentlessly and plan for and execute all kinds of marathon swims and channel swims around the world.

But what does she think about during the innumerable hours staring down in the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean and lakes and rivers around the world?

Fry gave an in-depth interview to Laura Pappano of Fair Games News. When Fry was asked what she thinks about when she swims, she said, “I don’t think about anything. It’s a complete blank. The only way I can describe it is as a dynamic meditation.”
