Seen from afar, a convergence of myriad phenomena are concurrently happening in France that are positively impacting the sport of open water swimming:

* the emergence of the best French swimmers at or near the top of the international open water scene (from Aurélie Muller to Marc-Antoine Olivier)
* the selection of Paris as the 2024 Summer Olympics site
* the leadership of Stéphane Lecat at the Fédération Française de Natation
* the aquapreneurship and creativity of race directors like Stéphan Caron
* the broad acceptance of open water swimming as an enjoyable leisure and competitive activity across all demographics

One example of a large event is L’Open Swim Stars Paris, a 1 km, 2 km, 5 km and 10 km open water competition held in the Canal de l’Ourcq that finishes at Bassin de la Villette in the heart of Paris, France on June 16th- 17th.
