Ferry Weertman [shown below with his Dutch teammates in the blue Arena wetsuit] was the pre-race favorite at the 2018 European Championships in Loch Lomond and came through with a gold medal performance today.

But the Dutch Olympic gold medalist was certainly pushed to the limit as both he and Hungarian silver medalist Kristof Rasovszky were timed in the identical time of 1:49:28.2 with the ultimate decision deemed by the officials.
