Eat Up And Enjoy The Florence

The Florence, a new San Diego area restaurant, opened this March. The lot was completely revamped into bright, airy 300-seat restaurant, bar, and two-acre outdoor space.

Like the Hard Rock Cafe showcases memorabilia from musicians and rock stars, The Florence is decorated with memorabilia belonging to San Diego sports icon and Catalina Channel and English Channel swimmer Florence Chadwick.

The Florence offers a coastal American cuisine [see menu here].

The interior is decorated with subtle sea and swim-inspired elements and with selected pieces of photos, trophies and maps from her various open water swimming exploits that her family contributed.

Chadwick was honored by the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1960 and the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in 1966 as an Honor Swimmer.

The Florence, the result of a US$4 million investment, is located at 13480 Evening Creek Dr N Suite 150, San Diego, CA 92128 at Kilroy Sabre Springs just off where the 15 and 56 freeways meet, approximately 30 minutes from La Jolla where many contemporary channel swimmers who try to emulate Chadwick’s achievements regularly train. It is also located near the Chadwick Ranch, her childhood home.

The Florence has, in a unique way, completed an eatery circle. In the late 1940’s, Chadwick served as the hostess, manager and bookkeeper for her mother’s San Diego restaurant called Chadwick’s.
