Buzzards Bay Coalition

Founded in 1987, The Buzzards Bay Coalition is a member-supported non-profit organization dedicated to the restoration, protection, and sustainable use and enjoyment of Buzzards Bay and its watershed.

By participating (swimming, donating, or volunteering) in the Buzzards Bay Swim, you can make a direct impact to protect the local waters by investing in the Coalition’s mission-critical work to improve the health of the Bay ecosystem for all through scientific research, land protection, advocacy, and fostering outdoor exploration.

With more than 12,000 members, hundreds of volunteers, and participants of all ages enjoy no-low or low-cost outdoor exploration programs, the Buzzards Bay Coalition is grateful for the partnership of those who support our mission. To learn more, visit www.savebuzzardsbay.org.

The Swim

The Buzzards Bay Swim is a scenic point-to-point open water swim across outer New Bedford Harbor. Assisted by an experienced safety patrol, swimmers navigate 1.2 miles through the harbor and channel, passing the iconic Butler Flats Lighthouse and New Bedford Hurricane Barrier.  Swimmers are welcomed to the finish in Fairhaven with a beach party featuring live music, cooked to order pancakes, hot coffee and local beer.

The US$25 registration fee and US$300 fundraising minimum also includes shuttle service, swim cap, event tee, and a locally custom-made finisher’s medal.  Special rates available for youth and lifeguard participants.
