Courtesy of Joanna Langfield about her grandmother Ida Elionsky and great uncle Henry Elionsky.

My grandmother, Ida Elionsky, and her brother Henry Elionsky was the first woman to swim around Manhattan, back in 1916. It is very nice to know her accomplishment has not been forgotten,” remarked Joanna Langfield.

Over 100 years ago in September 1916, the brother-and-sister Elionsky pair swam around Manhattan in 11 hours 35 minutes

Their story is posted here at Girl And Buster Swim Around Manhattan Island.
