Last year, neoprening Katie Nimmo of the Cheltenham Swimming & Waterpolo Club (1:20.30) nearly knocked off bioprening Oliver Wilkinson of the Gloucester Masters (1:20.22) in the annual Brownsea Island Swim.
Brownsea Island is the largest of 8 islands in Poole Harbour in the county of Dorset, England. The Brownsea Island Swim is a wild swimming island circumnavigation event managed by the RLSS Poole Lifeguard Club where swimmers are responsible for navigating their own course around Brownsea Island.
But in less time than it took Nimmo and Wilkinson to swim around the island, the available places were oversubscribed.
375 entries for its 300 available places were received in less than 2 hours after registration was opened.
The equivalent of the Brownsea Island Swim in California is the Naples Island Swim a wild swimming island circumnavigation event.
