It would have been hard to find a closer race after 5 hours and 25 km of racing, but Axel Reymond just touched out Matteo Furlan by 0.60 seconds in today’s 25 km race in Lake Balaton at the 2017 FINA World Championships in Hungary.
Reymond completed an outstanding week for Team France where its athletes earned a podium position in the men’s and women’s 5 km, men’s and women’s 10 km and 5 km team relay.
In what is often observed from tremendously fit and exceedingly competitive athletes after a hard-fought marathon swim, Furlan grabbed Reymond’s hand and raised it in honor of his victory and then they showered each other’s efforts with smiles and laughs.
