Romanian Avram Iancu continues on his stage swim of 2,860 km, forecasted to last 60 days, along the Danube River through Europe.

The 41-year-old librarian from Petrosani, Transylvania started his stage swim from Donaueschingen in the Black Forest in Germany. He is now heading into Day 83 as each day is a dynamically different replication of the day before.

Day 81 on September 8th

Today brought excellent weather and Iancu felt in top mental and physical state. He swam 36 km but, “unlike yesterday I managed to concentrate on every meter of swimming. It has been so much easier today [compared with yesterday’s 36 km].” He has passed the Borcea arm and now joined the mainstream of the Danube again, arriving at the 238 km milestone by the end of the day.

He also passed the place where the Ialomita River joins the Danube. “This is the birthplace of the legendary Romanian Prince, Michael the Brave; I thought about Michael’s courage in fighting the Ottoman Empire and the courage I need to finish this journey. I hope I will arrive at the Black Sea in six days.

The distance traversed on the Danube from the start to Day 81: 2,601 km

The remaining distance to be swum on the Danube: 238 km (because the last two stages were done in the Borcea, the remained distance to Sulina is 238 km).

Day 82 on September 9th

Today Iancu swam 41 km, reaching at the 197 km milestone. “It was a very beautiful day today, but also quite difficult. The water temperature was at 23°C and even though I felt great mentally, physically I wasn’t at my best. I really hope I can finish in the next five days.”

The distance traversed on the Danube from the start to Day 82: 2,643 km

The remaining distance to be swum on the Danube: 186 km
