The Atlantic City Pageant Ocean Swim is one of the world’s oldest open water swimming competitions.
Ray Peden of the Middle Atlantic Open Water Committee explains about this year’s event. “The Pageant open water swim was originally cancelled early in the summer but, it has now resurfaced – just in time for its 87th consecutive year.
On August 27th the tradition continues thanks to several volunteers and former Atlantic City lifeguards, the East Coast C-Cerpants Swim Club and Open Water committee members, referee Bob Schailey and race coordinator Joe Haney.
The Pageant prides itself on being the oldest continuous open water swim in the United States, dating back to 1929. The race has survived wars, depressions, and recessions. The race this year will run in the ocean from Michigan Avenue Beach to Chelsea Avenue Beach, approximately 1 mile.”
