Seven swimmers will be taking to the waters of Lake Memphremagog tonight to swim 25 miles across the length of the lake, starting at the stroke of midnight In Search of Memphré.
In Search of Memphré is an international cross-border marathon swim on Lake Memphremagog from Newport in the state of Vermont, U.S.A. to Magog in the province of Quebec, Canada.
The crossing of Lake Mempremagog, formerly a professional marathon swim that was halted partly due to security issues caused by the terrorist acts of 9/11, is organized by the Northeast Kingdom Open Water Swimming Association and the energetic visionary Phil White.
After his duties In Search of Memphré on the east coast of the United States, White will also emerge on the West Coast of America the following week where he will introduce his friend and colleague Ned Denison at the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame induction ceremonies on the Queen Mary at the 2012 Global Open Water Swimming Conference.
