2019 World Beach Games In San Diego, California

The Association of National Olympic Committees World Beach Games San Diego 2019 organizers announced, “San Diego is at the epicenter of beach, surf and extreme sports culture. The ANOC World Beach Games will blend the beach, active lifestyles and urban living into a vibrant mix that inspires youthful creativity and celebrates global connectivity through sports. We’re ready to show what a powerhouse our city has become and to welcome the world to San Diego.”

The World Beach Games between October 10th – 15th 2019 will include a FINA-sanctioned 5 km rough water swim in the Pacific Ocean with 60 athletes and an aquathlon with a bay swim and run in Mission Beach.

17 sport disciplines will be conducted on the Beach (including Handball + Karate + Soccer + Tennis + Volleyball + Wrestling), in the Water (Kiteboarding + Longboard Surfing + 5 km Open Water Swim + Shortboard Surfing + Wakeboarding + Waterski), and Action Sports (Aquathlon + 3×3 Basketball + Bouldering + Cycling/BMX + Skateboarding + Festival).

Feben Yohannes, Head of Marketing and Public Relations for the San Diego Local Organizing Committee, explained about how fans can follow all the sports including the 5 km open water race, “Spark Compass is [our] platform to showcase innovations in every aspect of the Games. From enhanced Augmented Reality (AR) with data overlays with offers from local sponsors, to hyper localized experiences delivered globally, our sponsors will be able to interact with fans in new ways with real-time offer redemption and AR merchandise activation.

Spark Compass technology enables integrations with diverse applications, including in-water pollution measurements. To experience Spark Compass Intelligent Display in action, fans can download and launch the Spark Compass App on their smartphones, click on the AWBG 2019 logo and AR posters, and then hold their smartphones over the poster and watch videos.”
