Washington, DC will be ground central for the March for the Ocean on Saturday, June 9th between 10 am – 3 pm.
Today, March for the Ocean and Earth Conservation Corps is sponsoring a sign making and networking party at 4 pm at The Matthew Henson Earth Conservation Center located directly next to the DC United Stadium and by the Anacostia River on 2000 Half Street SW.
Starting at 8:30 pm, Ocean Films Under the Stars will start where March for the Ocean and The International Ocean Film Festival will show inspiring ocean films by the NW corner of the Washington Monument Grounds near 17th & Constitution.
On June 9th around 12 noon, the participants will walk past the White House and around Lafayette Square before returning to staging area where Dr. Sylvia Earle, Philippe and Ashlan Cousteau, Carl Safina, Danni Washington and other ocean and water ambassadors will speak about offshore drilling, plastic pollution, rising seas, climate change, and renewable energy.
Between 7 – 10 pm, the Surfrider Foundation will celebrate with an ocean lovers party. Participants with all kinds of creative aloha attire are expected at the St. Stephen & the Incarnation Episcopal Church in Washington, DC.
