Haley Anderson wants to return to the Olympics after her silver medal performance at the 2012 London Games. After the first 2 km at the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships in perfectly flat, warm waters in Miramar Lake in Fort Myers, Florida, she is swimming in the lead comfortably in command.
But long-time rivals Eva Fabian, Ashley Twichell, Emily Brunemann and Stephanie Peacock are right on her heels during the first loop. A pack of 5-6 are hanging onto Anderson’s strong pace, but the race will undoubtedly take all kinds of twists and turns over the last 8 km.
With play-by-play action brought by Dave Thomas with color commentary from Sam Kendricks, USA Swimming is live streaming the event at USASwimming.org, live starting at 8 am New York time.
But not surprisingly Tristin Baxter, Becca Mann and Christine Jennings are far back in the pack, still bidding their time to make a move towards the front.
