As the tankers and cargo ships gradually clear from the Catalina Channel and return to plowing across the Pacific Ocean rather than sitting anchored in the San Pedro Channel near the Long Beach Harbor, the deadline approaches to receive a discount sanction fee from the Catalina Channel Swimming Federation.

Completed applications received before May 1st qualify for the discount Catalina Channel Swimming Federation sanction fee of US$500, a significant discount from the full fare of US$750.

The Catalina Channel Swimming Federation and the Santa Barbara Channel Swimming Association will jointly host observer and safety training in Southern California on May 16th, May 30th and June 6th.

In Los Angeles on May 16th, the governing bodies will jointly offer both a CPR re-certification and their observer course. In Santa Barbara on May 30th and in San Diego on June 6th, they will offer an observer training for interested individuals.
