The Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) was a series of professional marathon swims in Canada that attracted the world’s finest marathon swimmers of its day to compete in a variety of distances in and across lakes in Canada. The athletes ranged from George Young who won the 1931 CNE Marathon Swim to Abilio Couto who was the first amateur and third overall in the 1963 race.

The C$15,000 in 1963 is approximately worth US$91,144 in 2015 American dollars – which would be a very welcomed cash purse among contemporary marathon swimmers.
