Winter Swimming In Estonia

Like their counterparts in the Czech Republic, Estonians and others from dozens of countries love extreme cold-water swimming. The Winter Swimming Festival Pirita Open and Estonian Open Winter Swimming Championships will be held in a river pool in the Pirita Olympic Sailing Center from 1980 Summer Olympics on January 7th-8th, 2011.

The events include a 25-meter breaststroke, 50-meter freestyle, 4 x 25-meter freestyle relay, 450-meter endurance swim and a non-competitive ice-hole penguin’s dip.

The entry deadline is December 31st 2010. Swimmers may not use any internal or external substances that preserve or increase body heat. A video is posted here.
