Alex Meyer, the Harvard intellectual who takes a studious approach to marathon swimming, was nominated by USA Swimming in two separate categories in its annual Golden Goggle Awards: in the Breakout Performance of the Year category and in the Perseverance Award category.

The USA Swimming Foundation Golden Goggle Awards are a star-studded awards gala celebrating the top accomplishments in American swimming.

This year’s event will be held on November 20th at the JW Marriott in Los Angeles, California.

Alex, the 2012 London Olympics qualifier in the Olympic 10km Marathon Swim and the 2010 world 25K champion, is the epitome of a breakout star who has persevered after training thousands of miles in indoor pools and lakes in his native New York and adopted state of Massachusetts.
