When The Egyptians Came Up Into The Swiss Alps

Vasanti Niemz reminded us of a long-standing records in the marathon swimming world.

“I still remember vividly when Mohamed Marouf and the Egyptian national open water swimming team came to swim in Lake Zürich for the International Self-Transcendence Marathon-Schwimmen. We felt so honoured to have such a huge professional international team participating.”

Marouf still holds the record for the 26.4 km International Self-Transcendence Marathon-Schwimmen which he set in the 6th edition of the swim in 1993 in 5 hours 51 minutes.

The International Self-Transcendence Marathon-Schwimmen is one of the world’s most popular and well-established marathon swims, always with a sold-out field in Lake Zurich. The event is one of the World’s Top 100 Open Water Swims and was founded by International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame Honour Administrator Sri Chinmoy of India.
