Michelle and Bruckner Chase are the visionaries and drivers behind the OC Swim Club where OC stands from both Ocean City and Ocean Conscious.
In innovative and environmentally-conscious ways, Michelle and Bruckner are striving to improve the waterways of the world.
This summer, in collaboration with the Monterey Bay Aquarium, they will promote the Seafood Watch Program and other initiatives to inspire conservation of the oceans. The Seafood Watch Program, using science-based, peer reviewed and use ecosystem-based criteria, raises consumer awareness about the world’s seafood supplies through its pocket guides, website, iPhone applications and outreach efforts and encourages restaurants, distributors and seafood purveyors to purchase from sustainable sources.
In 2009, Bruckner‘s attempt across Monterey Bay – a swim only previously made by Cindy Cleveland – was cut short.
But he will be back this coming August to complete the feat, with the support and on behalf of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and BLUE, A Global Oceans Film and Conservation Summit.
“Cindy Cleveland is just one of several individuals who embody both an incredible tenacity for endurance feats and a humble commitment to community,” said Bruckner of the renowned solo marathon swimmer who is the only person to have completed an entire (90-mile) circumnavigation around Catalina Island.
“I am focusing on the opportunities and impact possible from playing in an environment and medium that gives us all ample room to pursue our individual goals. Michelle and I are doing what we can to improve our world and community while in the water and on land.”
We look forward to hearing their success and continued positive impact on the world around us, both terrestrial and aquatic.
