World champion Shelley Taylor-Smith did dozens of marathon swims in warm water. World champion Petar Stoychev won one of the most difficult and warmest marathon swims in history – the infamous 25 km World Championships in Shanghai, China in water between 30-32ºC.

They will join some of the world’s top marathon swimmers, Christof Wandratsch and Rostislav Vítek who also traveled the world doing warm-water competitions, in the ice swimming community.

Taylor-Smith, who won dozens of amateur and professional marathon swims around the world during the 1980s and 1990s, is taking to the ice – similar to what Stoychev did in Murmansk and what Vítek did the Czech Republic during 2015.

Taylor-Smith will participate in the 200m freestyle at the 2016 Big Chill Swim International Winter Swimming World Cup in Windermere on February 6th.

“This requires discipline, focus, passion, commitment, and lots of training … with ice bucket training in the pool whilst chillaxing,” she wrote.
