The inaugural Torneo Internacional de Natacion de Aguas Abiertas will be held on Dina Beach on the ruggedly beautiful, isolated island of Guanaja on March 5th, organized by the Honduras National Swimming Federation and the City of Guanaja.

The first-time event in Honduras is expected to attract up to 100 swimmers from around the world. Already swimmers from Honduras, including 4 Honduran Olympic swimmers, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Cayman, Uruguay and the Netherlands have confirmed their participation.

Guanaja is one of the Bay Islands of Honduras and is in the Caribbean Sea. It is about 70 km (43 miles) off the north coast of Honduras. The island’s warm, clear waters support an extensive coral reef that is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef and second only to the Great Barrier Reef off the coasts of Australia.
