Tiger sharks, whose usual diet consists of fish, seals, birds, smaller sharks, squid and turtles, do not eat lionfish. They certainly do not look tasty. Divers and fishermen are urged to be extremely cautious and avoid contact with the lionfish’s venomous spikes for their stings are very painful.
Fortunately, lionfish are not aggressive toward humans and usually keep their distance – great news for open water swimmers.
