Thrice The Fun, Triple The Challenge: ʻAu I Nā Mokupuni ʻEkolu Swim Challenge

Dr. Steven Minaglia is usually busy with his patients, but he squeeze time in to organize the ʻAu I Nā Mokupuni ʻEkolu Swim Challenge, a 3-day 3-stage ocean channel swim in Hawaii where swimmers swim across 3 Hawaiian channels in 3 days.

Dr. Minaglia describes its brief history, “Stephen Rouch completed the Triple Crown of Stage Swims last fall in 2018 when he completed ʻAu I Nā Mokupuni ʻEkolu Swim Challenge [after previously completing the 4-day, 4-stage 66.9 km SCAR Swim Challenge and the 8-day, 7-stage 193 km 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim].

I completed the Triple Crown of Stage Swims when I completed all 4 stages at SCAR this year. Devon Clifford completed Au I Na in both 2017 and 2018, so she completed the Triple Crown of Stage Swims when she completed the 8 Bridges Swim in June 2018 – basically the same time as Joe Zemaitis except that her total time for 8 Bridges was slower. Thanks to Joe for getting us all inspired. In fact, I swam slow on Day 2 and Day 3 this year’s SCAR because I became paranoid that I might not complete the Triple Crown before Joe’s brother John who will be at Au I Na next month.”

The 2019 ʻAu I Nā Mokupuni ʻEkolu will occur this year on September 12th – 15th where Joseph Zemaitis, John Zemaitis, Skylar Webb, Alex Webb, James Tout, Paul Towers and Dr. Minaglia will compete.
