The former world record in the men’s 200m individual medley was held by Cameron Stanley who set the record in 2:29.05 at the 2024 IISA New Zealand and Southern Hemisphere Championships in his native New Zealand.

But today, the top six (!) men in the 200m individual medley busted through that standard, led by 24-year-old Théo Goyeaud of France in 2:20.07 who just barely touched out Romania’s Andrei Enache in 2:20.19 in a thrilling race. We cannot recall a race in swimming history where six men broke the existing record. It was an unprecedented resetting of swimming speed for the all-around medley specialists.

  1. How many entrants in this year’s events? How many from USA? Any Californians? Are men’s and women’s heets run together? Meet is every two years?

    1. 754 entrants from 48 countries. Men and women are run separately as in any major international competition. The list of Americans is in an earlier Daily News of Open Water Swimming article posted about a week ago, I do not remember the exact number, nor do I remember the states where the athletes were born or currently live, but they come from coast to coast, north to south. No one from Hawaii or southern Florida from what I remember.
