The Passing Of Douglas Waymark

On behalf of the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation, it is with great sadness that we report the death of Douglas Waymark who passed away following his [English] Channel attempt on Monday [September 7th].

Douglas was swimming with CS&PF pilot Lance Oram as part of an Enduroman Arch-to-Arc challenge. He was pulled out of the water around 9 pm in the evening in French waters approximately 15 miles from Dover, and afterward quickly airlifted to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford where he later died. Our thoughts are first and foremost with Douglas’ family and friends at this difficult time.

Douglas was a hugely experienced triathlete and counts climbing Mount Everest in 2009 among his many achievements. He has completed many Olympic and Ironman-distance triathlons including a continuous quintuple iron-distance at the Enduroman Festival.

Kevin Murphy described the situation for the BBC here. His sister explained the situation out in the English Channel here.
