On May 7th in southern Florida, the International Swimming Hall of Fame is organizing the World Professional Open Water 10K Race and the Fran Crippen Swim Festival 1 Mile Dash for the Cash.
The World Professional Open Water 10K Race will offer a purse of $20,000 and is reserved for invited elite swimmers such as Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, who will support the race in memory of Fran Crippen. America’s top open water swimmers, as well as many other top competitors from Canada and Australia are scheduled to attend.
The event’s Facebook page states, “Fran Crippen is an inspiration to us all. In loving memory of our friend Fran, this one-mile open water race will be held at 9:00am in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Afterwards, there will be a 10K elite race. Both races will serve to benefit the Fran Crippen Elevation Foundation.”
