Páraic Casey is remembered fondly by not only those who knew him, but Páraic Casey was a member of the Sandycove Swimming Club in Cork, Ireland who passed away during a solo charity swim attempt at the English Channel on 22 July 2012.

At the time, Casey was swimming on behalf of St Patrick’s Marymount Hospice in Cork, Ireland.

“Páraic is with us always,” remembers Ned Denison, a friend from Cork. “In Dover, we sit on his bench at Varne Ridge and look over the channel overcome by memories. At Sandycove Island, we gather around the table after swims with hot drinks and biscuits and talk, smile and laugh.”

Casey is the namesake for the ILDSA Páraic Casey Munster Open Water Swimmer of the Year Award, given annually by the Irish Long Distance Swimming Association to the swimmer from Munster who has best represented open water swimming.

Riana, his wife, described her husband to the British Broadcasting Corporation as an “amazing, healthy, tough, loving husband, friend, brother, uncle, son, nephew and cousin.”
