Diana Nyad patiently waited out Hurricane Earl and remains on the lookout for the right conditions and Cuban visas to be issued for her and her team so she can begin her Extreme Dream Swim from Cuba to Florida.

As her friend Nancy Machinist aptly reminded her of a quote by English novelist E.M. Forster, “The sea does not reward those who are too anxious, too greedy, or too impatient. One should lie empty, open, choiceless as a beach – waiting for a gift from the sea. We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”
