Pedro Rego Monteiro and Virgilio de Castilho are at it once again.
On December 12th they are going to host the annual King of the Sea and Queen of the Sea 10K pro invitational on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with a bunch of world-class swimmers gathering to race for cash.
The King and Queen of the Sea 2010 will be televised live on Brazil’s largest broadcaster, TV Globo Esporte Espetacular. They will swim 10K and run up on the beach for their feedings in front of the live cameras
On the day before the King and Queen of the Sea spectacular, Pedro and Virgilio have also organized the Start Grid sprint race where the swimmers will face each other in a simple out-and-back 400-meter sprint. The finish order will determine the starting order at the King and Queen of the Sea race.
Last year, Trent Grimsey of Australia pulled away only slightly to win over FINA 10KM Marathon Swimming World Cup series champion Chad Ho to become the King of the Sea in 2009. Trent’s younger brother, Codie, will be arriving in Rio de Janeiro in an attempt to keep up the family tradition.
